& Tombo
Peter Farquhar taught History
and Geography for over twenty years at Cabrillo Community College
near Santa Cruz, California where he won praise as a distinguished
teacher and an innovator in the introduction of audio/visual
and computer technologies in the classroom. He began developing
techniques for the digital archiving of family history in 1992,
while working on a project with the Oral History Office at U.C.
Berkeley's Bancroft Library.
Peter advises individuals,
families and organizations on the preservation of their history,
conducts workshops and seminars on various digital technologies
and produces beautifully designed and carefully printed histories
accompanied by digitally archived media.
Mary Farquhar is an award
winning teacher of German at Lowell High School in San Francisco
and has produced numerous videos for foreign language instruction.
Mary is particularly skilled
at the translation of family history documents and in proofing
and editing transcripts. She is fluent in both Spanish and German.
The Farquhars live in San
Francisco. Peter is a third generation native; Mary's family
is from Vienna, although she was born and grew up in Manila.
They embrace the rich cultural heritage of cosmopolitan San Francisco,
including its creative arts, music, literature, love of history
and tradition of fine printing; and they delight in sharing the
process of expanding that heritage using the new technologies
of the digital revolution.
TomboMedia, established in
1993 by the Farquhars, is dedicated to the creation, publication
and preservation of personal, family, and business history.
Tombo is their cat.
