Sarah Elizabeth Farquhar
1876 - 1898

My father's older half-sister, Sarah Farquhar, known as "Sadie," died of tuberculosis in 1898 at the age of twenty-two (Her mother, also named Sarah, had died giving birth to Sadie in1876). My grandfather, David Webber Farquhar, later married Grace Thaxter Peloubet in 1886, and my father was born in1887, when Sadie was eleven. She was as much a mother as an older sister to my father, who was only ten when Sadie died. I remember there was always a catch in my father's voice when he spoke of her.
