Grace Thaxter Peloubet
1863 - 1943

My grandmother, Grace Thaxter Peloubet was born at Oakham, Massachusetts in 1863. Her childhood was spent in Natick, with visits to Thaxters in Bangor, Maine. She entered Wellesley College in 1884, but left to marry David Webber Farquhar in 1886. She lived in Newton until the death of her husband in 1905. In 1917 she moved to San Francisco to join her two sons, Francis and Sam. She was a member of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston; and from 1926 to 1929 was First Reader of Sixth Church in San Francisco. She moved to Berkeley in 1936, where she lived until her death in 1943. This photograph, taken in the late 1880s, had been severely torn, creased, and stained. It was digitally restored by TomboMedia.
